» The Big Questions #4 ~ Cleaning the Waffle Maker

When you make waffles how do you clean your waffle maker? The reason I ask, is my mom and I were discussing this as I was struggling to make some decent waffles at her house.

No matter how much oil I put on it, the darn things stuck and crumbled into a sad waffley mess. Somehow the subject of cleaning came up. One of us scrubs the thing clean after each use so that it’s not a goopy, greasy mess. The other one does a cursory wipe down figuring that the leftover grease etc “seasons” the waffle maker much like one would with cookie sheets or stoneware.

Now I know based on my above comments, y’all are thinking my mom is the squeaky clean scrubber and I am not. After all it was my mom’s waffle maker that I was struggling with. So one would think that her waffle maker would be very clean, hence the sticky-factor. But not so much. My mom’s waffle maker is “seasoned,” yet I couldn’t make a decent waffle for the life of me. I think I ended up giving up and making pancakes instead.

My waffle maker is clean as the day I received it. I do use it often, but I clean it really well. I don’t want a greasy mess in my cupboards.

So how about you? Do you scrub yours clean or let it “season?” If you are a seasoner, how do you get your waffles to not stick?

Beachcomber Hotel, Chaweng Beach Nice and quiet hotel despite being only a minute from the shops and restaurants. Rooms were clean and big enough for a family of four. We lived in a superior room at 3rd floor. Shaded pool, perfect for our children (6 & 9) when they needed some time away from the intense sun, though with some mosquitoes (at least in July - rainy season). Plenty of sunbeds on the beach, towels included, and drinks and food served at the beach. The sister-hotel Blue Lagoon (availably by free taxi-service) had better pool and restaurant area, but Beachcomber had better beach (sand, no rocks). We feel Beachcomber was very very central and ok value for money for a 1991-built hotel. On another visit we may though go for a newer (and more expensive) hotel.

Beachcomber Hotel, Chaweng Beach Hotel is fantastic! People are friendly and helpful. The special comment on location - it is just perfect. Just a step away from central of Chaweng. Very quiet.   perfect. 10 minutes enough to make reservation, pay , and have a confirmed place! Will use in future !

Beachcomber Hotel, Chaweng Beach Decent enough but overpriced for what you get. On an island (and beach) where you can easily find more than adequate accomodation at less than a third of the price, it does not represent a very good value. These rooms should go for around 2000 Baht, not more.   Efficient as always. Travelfish.org can consistantly be relied upon for accurate descriptions of places/accomodation.

Beachcomber Hotel, Chaweng Beach We really enjoyed our stay at the Beachcomber and found the staff to be very friendly. The rooms were very clean and provided everything we needed. The pool is lovely but a little too shaded, although was perfect for my 4 year old to get out of the sun. This part of Chaweng beach is beautiful and there were always plenty of sunbeds available. Located in a good area away from the noisy parts of Chaweng. Would stay again.   Excellent every time we use it.

Beachcomber Hotel, Chaweng Beach This hotel is absolutely fantastic. The location was great as it was only a few minutes walk to the shops restaurants and nightlife. The staff were really friendly, helpful and always available to carry out any requests I had asked. The rooms were big enough for two and very cosy, clean and linen changed every day. I can t describe how truly comfortable I felt here…Loved it and would definitely return.   Excellent and efficient.

Beachcomber Hotel, Chaweng Beach This was a fabulous hotel with very pleasant & helpful staff. We had arranged pick up from the airport through our hotel, however we missed our connecting flight from bangkok to Koh Samui and therefore had to go on next flight 1 hour later. we thought we would have to make our own way when reached the airport, but the taxi driver had waited a whole 2 hours for us. we were greeted at hotel reception by bell boy who looked after all our luggage and 2 welcome cocktails brought to our room. our room was the basic superior room on 3rd floor, very big with 2 double beds in it. spotless and cleaned every day. (i would advise to request room on 2nd or 3rd floor as ground floor had quite a smell some days from sewrage, however this is all over the island so no indication on cleanliness of hotel).hotel also provided beach towels every day which was great. restaurant was very nice as was the bar. hotel is situated on the nicest part of the beach with a wonderful beachside service providing drinks and food and some of the best massages ever!! its at the end of the busy strip of bars and restaurants which is quite nice but literally only mins walk away! really enjoyed stay here and will definitly be returning to this hotel.   excellent booking service. first time booking any hotel through the internet and will definitly be coming back to sawadee again! no problems whatsoever and I booked 3 hotels altogether in thailand!

Beachcomber Hotel, Chaweng Beach My 2nd stay in this hotel and another good experience. Staff cannot do enough and nothing is too much trouble. Restaurant is excellent, rooms are spacious and very clean. For 2200 Baht per night in low season, you simply won t get better value.   Good service as usual
