» Dem’s Convention Puts Media in Shabby Hole; Republicans “Wine and Dine” the Press…Who’s Smarter?

.
Speaking of the conventions, you couldn’t be blamed for thinking that the Democrats love the elitist, liberal Eastern Establishment press corps and were wining and dining them accordingly. You’re probably thinking the Republicans, who consistently bashed the press in the Twin Cities — that moment when the delegates pointed up and chanted “NBC, NBC” was especially memorable — just treated reporters like dirt.

But you’d be wrong. If you polled the press after the conventions, you’d most likely find reporters in love with the GOP and furious at the Democrats. Why? Well, from what we could glean from our colleagues covering the events, Democrats in Denver put reporters in outdoor tents with wooden plank floors. They also provided about half a dozen fine portable toilets per press tent, then promptly forgot to clean them adequately. Toward the end of the convention, some reporters said the stench was so bad in some that they couldn’t be used.

The Republicans? Beautiful, regularly cleaned bathrooms for the Establishment press.

Then there was the food. The grub provided by the Dems, mostly chips and salsa, was virtually , though they did provide vouchers for food that could be purchased in the Pepsi Center about 100 yards away.

“Some of us spent 20 minutes or more foraging for food” and battling long lines, one reporter said.
.
Apparently the yummy corn dog stand right nearby was eschewed by many nabobs.

Above: Haute Cuisine at the DNC

The Republicans? They made sure tasty burgers, sandwiches and salads were within 75 feet or so of the media areas. Did we mention the free beer and booze? That was available right by the bistro coffee stand where you could get a good old-fashioned American-media-elite latte or perhaps a fine white-chocolate mocha.
.
Conventions can be chaotic affairs, and the Republicans, another colleague said, were much better about letting the media know about daily event schedules, press contacts, security details and hourly updates. The Democrats couldn’t seem to answer, on the day before Obama’s acceptance speech, what time the press would be able to get into the stadium.

Remember, John McCain called the press “my base” a while back. Pass the brie.

Baramee Resortel, Patong Beach this is a new hotel , most importantly the room is clean , the swimming pool is small but staffs at the pool are friendly. They only serve american bf and is straight from Kitchen, thus is fresh.30min walk to Jungceylon, Soi Bangla but I rented a rather new motorbike @ THB 200/24 Hrs at the hotel, ride to Karon & Kata beach , very worth it.Overall ,i will grade this hotel 4 stars instead of 3 stars. Tony ( Singapore )   efficency wins all.

Baramee Resortel, Patong Beach Very friendly and helpful Personal,we went in low season and stayed in a delux seaview room . i wouldnt reccomend that because you dont really have a view. you look over and between houses and there is just a gap to see the sea. but very clean since it is still new. we are 27 years old and this hotel is a 10 min walk to the Bangla rd were everything is but we walked it every day with no problems. if you have kids i would not reccomend the hotel. the pool is small and cold ( not kidfriendly)but we only went in once. for breakfast you have 3 coises and they were OK! for us it was the perfect hotel and we would go back there again! good for the price! i would reccomend to stay at least one night on the phi phi island in the island cabana hotel! very nice and awsome Breakfast buffet!!!good beach!!   would use this service again!! i booked the hotel the last day and i tried a few request to find one who was available. the service was very quick to help me find one. payment was easy to make and i had no trouble checking in the hotel!

Baramee Resortel, Patong Beach We were very impressed with Baramee. Right from the start the hotel staff we friendly and helpful. The pool is large and clean with some areas to lye in the sun or shade. There is a poolside bar service. The rooms are clean and stylish. The breakfast is a choice of American, continental or asian. located at one end of Patong beach. Close to the beach, but a 15min walk into the heart of Patong, tuktuks down to the main part of patong cost 100baht.

Baramee Resortel, Patong Beach Baramee Resortel is a small resort, but modern and clean. It take 20-30min walk to Bungla St (the famous tourist street lots pubs and restaurants), short walk to the quiet beautiful beach (last than 5mins). staffs are very friendly and helpful, the breakfast is not good though. we had a very good time staying in Baramme Resortel, will stay again in the next visit.   Sawadee.com is very effection. reply to my request fast and helful, is the best online booking I ever had.

Baramee Resortel, Patong Beach The hotel is in a great location and the rooms are very nice and good value for money. On the downside when we arrived the hotel was overbooked and there was no room available. After being kept waiting for 4 hours the manager decided to put us in a far inferior hotel for the night and pick us up the next day when a room was available. Breakfast choice very poor!!

Baramee Resortel, Patong Beach We stayed at Deluxe double rooms and our rooms were very nice, clean and spacious. Staff at hotel was really nice and helpful and everybody loved our little boy! Swimming pool was quite small and shady and the water wasnยดt very clean and clear. They cleaned the water almost every day at our stay and in the end of our holiday it was quite ok. The traffic was terrible at the road by the hotel and we had lots of difficulties getting over with the baby carriage. The location was little bit far from the shops, but to the beach was only short way. The brakfast was ok.   No problems, good and fast service!

Baramee Resortel, Patong Beach Every aspect of my 4 day stay was superior : the room was immaculate and spacious , the location was excellent , and the staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. I booked on line , and what I found there far exceeded my expectations . I would return there for certain !   Very prompt and accurate . Well done .

Baramee Resortel, Patong Beach Our stay at Baramee was excellent, we highly recommend this hotel, it is situated at the end of beach road Patong, close to everthing but also just far enough out of the hustle and bustle. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was really good too!!! As it is a new resort it is very clean and up to date. You have a view to the beach and town. It also backs onto forest with beautiful bird songs to wake you in the morning. Highly recommended, we loved it!!   Sawadee is a safe, cheaper and more efficient option compared to others.

Banthai Village, Chang Klan The hotel is a beautiful and peaceful place. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is great as it is within walking distance to the night market and the sunday market near Tapae Gate. The restaurant has a good american breakfast which they serve in the courtyard near the pool. I will definitely stay here next time we are in town.   Sawadee is always very easy to use and extremely reliable. We booked all of our hotels through them.

Banthai Village, Chang Klan Beautiful little boutique hotel! Great location just between the Night market and the Old City, walking distance to both. Excellent service, beautifully designed rooms. We requested an extra bed and there was still more than enough room for 3 persons.   very efficent
