» Ways to Save While Going Green - #1

Do you currently use a liquid additive in your dishwasher to help clean glass, cut grease, or prevent spots? If you do, STOP wasting your money now. Those additives cost $2-5 a pop and are doing the same things you can get by simply adding an ounce of distilled white vinegar instead. Start adding vinegar today to your dishwasher’s liquid compartment and you will immediately see the difference. Squeaky clean glasses, no more greasy residue, not to mention the fact that you’re saving $$$ and helping the environment. Go on, try it. You’ll be glad you did.
Got any other great tips on how to save $$$ while going green? We’d love to hear them, send your ideas to us at kidsstuffworld @ gmail dot com. If we post your idea, we’ll be sure to add a link to your site/blog. Submit enough ideas and we’ll feature you as well.

I went home this weekend. You might think I spent the time relaxing, right? Not exactly. Instead I was recruited into the Porch Refurbishment Scheme (PRS….. We should totally get T-shirts….). No, unfortunately this wasn’t some new reality-fix-it-up TV show. For some odd reason my Dad got it into his head that our wooden patio needed to be varnished. So I got home just in time to join in the fun along with my Mom and older sister, Megan. (Joel and Emily were lame and not at home). Yippee. First off Dad decided we need to hammer in all the loose nails…..Yay!
Of course common sense dictates that we must also clean between the boards. What? You don’t see why? There’s an obvious reason. It’s very simple. Yeah……I don’t get it either….but we got to play with knives! Or meat-stabber/fork things, or whatever they really are. Lol I now know how Ham, Shem, and Japheth felt.
Ok, so now we get to the actual varnishing. Here’s our first method. Paint rollers.
Soon we realized the rollers soaked up too much varnish and we wouldn’t have enough to finish. So Dad brought in the sprayer and then we rolled it in.
Of course Megan also got a very brown foot when she stood in the wrong spot
Don’t worry it washed off. Too bad, it’d have been like a reverse sock line. Speaking of standing in the wrong spot, I got cut off when Dad sprayed the porch and I was on the other side. I tried to make it across without touching the wood too much.
It was soon after this we started the slave ship “Heave Ho…..Heave Ho…..” thing to the rythym we rolled the brushes to. Of course this quickly changed into the M&M’s commercial “Don’t Rock he Boat Baby”
Anyway it’s been nice being home

» Moving.
This week is moving week; the first time we’ve done this since getting married and having the little boy. Kind of daunting! But we’re working hard to simplify our lives and our home so we can better focus on the most important things.
This season of our lives is about scaling down, buying less, getting rid of debt, losing weight, gaining health and keeping it simple. Hopefully this blog will document all of that, and help me stay focussed!
