» General update
MFA: I’m still waiting to hear from schools, but the good news is that all my materials have been received (from what I can tell.) Also, it turns out that Sarah Lawrence extended their deadline to Feb. 1 for old fashioned paper mailers like me. That was a big relief to know that my application is open and being read, even though my acceptance is still up in the air.
However, I have been completely in the dark about how to handle/prepare for financial aid. Supposedly, some of this financial aid stuff is due pronto, which doesn’t make any sense to me whatsoever. Why should I have to apply for financial aid when I don’t even know if/where I’m going to school? But being the good citizen that I am, I will be making a rushed tax return and FAFSA application this weekend. I can only hope that the government will find some favor in me.
Home: I’m making major progress on the home front. Christmas is dead and in the process of burial. The Valentine’s Ziggy is out. I’ve still got some major closet organizations ahead of me, but I’m actually looking forward to them. The only thing is that by the time I get everything thrown out and sorted out and beautified, it will probably be time for me to start packing to move. C’est la vie.
Work: As I tell most people, I love my job. But lately the daily grind has been getting to me. Maybe it has something to do with my 1 year anniversary with the company last month? I am never complacent. And our VP has been adding more tasks for us to do as he tries to impress the new CEO. I am not a person who likes quick changes - I like change, but only as I can prepare and ease into it. Giving me 5 new tasks unrelated to my previous training within a 2-week period will not make me like my job. And on top of this, my intern, who has helped lessen the work load a lot, has been in the office maybe a total of 16 hours in the past 3 ½ weeks. He’s like a walking petry dish for the common cold.
Health: I have my first dentist appointment in 8 years tomorrow. They’re going to rip me apart, I just know it.

it’s in the car,” Farber said. “Half the time, I’m like jumping in and out of the car. I don’t have time to clean it. I try to get to the car wash as often as I can but it doesn’t always happen.” Compare that to her husband Steven Farber’s brand new BMW, which the kids have only been allowed to ride in a couple of times. “His car is like the sanitarium,” she said. “He doesn’t even let me drive the car.” Farber admits she would never let her house get this way. ABC News asked germ expert Dr. Chuck Gerba, a University of Arizona microbiologist, to swab every inch of Farber’s SUV and herhusband’s BMW to let them know, for better or worse, what’s growing in there. “We found that cars are the moldiest of all forms of transportation,” Gerba said. He added that most people don’t realize their cars are perfect breeding grounds for germs. that can cause skin infections. “In cars, germs seem to tend to build up because people aren’t really cleaning or disinfecting these areas,” he said. “Our germs are traveling with us and everybody that travels in that car carries their germs and leaves them in your car.” Gerba took the samples back to his lab while Debra Farber waited and worried. “It’s definitely making me nervous. I mean, obviously, I wouldn’t want to expose the kids to any harm … They both have colds now,” she said. “I’m sure you’ll find plenty of germs in the car.” Unfortunately, Farber was right. Gerba found millions of bacteria on the door handles, seat and floor of the SUV,

» Decluttering - the beginning
I look around me and see piles of things everywhere. Piles of my sons books and toys, piles of paper work and piles of goodness knows what else!I KNOW that we have too many things, I know that we don’t need all that we have, I know that I would be better off without a lot of them (both financially and mentally) … so why haven’t I done anything.
It’s that age old problem… STARTING and FINISHING!!
At the beginning of the year I made a real effort to tidy my son’s bedroom… putting the books on the bookshelf, tidying the toys into the boxes under his bed, laying his rug neatly, ensuring all the clothes were in the drawers - and that they were all clothes that are still appropriate in size for him now (or in the very near future). I am proud of what I achieved in his room. I felt a sense of “I have finished this room to the best of my ability” … and, I have maintained it!
In doing his room, I had to sort out some old clothes of his - giving some to charity, some to a friend and lending some to my sister-in-law for her new son and also selling some on Ebay.
I have tried over the last couple of weeks to do similarly throughout the house, but have never reached that satisfaction of “I have finished this room to the best of my ability” - and therefore I haven’t maintained it - mainly due to not having enough decent storage for many things.
I think that the reason I managed to completemy son’s room was that it is a manageable space with good storage options - underbed baskets, 3 bookshelves, a wardrobe and a chest of drawers. I also purchased a ‘pop-up basket’ to store all the cuddly toys which had previously been occupying the bookshelves.
In order to make more progress I need to focus on SMALLER areas at a time. I plan to work on the drawers in the house - one each day - to try to free up some actual storage room - as some of these are just storing/hiding unnecessary clutter.
I’m hoping that in doing so, I will not only be getting rid of things, but also making some money on Ebay from the unwanted (by me) things in the house.
